The Penitentiary Police of Agrigento celebrated the 209th anniversary of the foundation of the corps away from the “Pasquale di Lorenzo” Prison. The ceremony took place in the picturesque setting of the Pirandello Theater.

“The situation has improved; unfortunately, it can happen that there are cyclically periods and critical events that are a bit stronger, whether it is due to the population of inmates that may be a bit more lively during that period or due to an objective shortage of staff,” says the director of the “Pasquale Di Lorenzo” Prison in Agrigento, Anna Puci, regarding the current situation of the “Petrusa” Penitentiary Institute, which has often, and even in the recent past, been at the center of controversies, protests, and serious incidents involving assaults by inmates on the staff on duty.

A provincial-level ceremony, with the participation of the Prison of Sciacca, and in the presence of Prefect Salvatore Caccamo and civil, military, and religious authorities, as well as the families of the staff and members of the Corps in retirement.

Also hosting the event was the commander of the Penitentiary Police of the Agrigento department, Aurora Monica Mirabile. The celebration was an opportunity to present awards to those who distinguished themselves during their service. The awardees are: Commendation to Chief Coordinator of Penitentiary Police Domenico Galvano; Commendation to Chief Penitentiary Police Enzo Ferro; Commendation for Superintendent of Penitentiary Police Giovanni Giancani.
