The Living Stations of the Cross along the streets of the neighborhood
The parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is preparing to experience, once again this year, one of the most anticipated moments for the community: the Living Stations of the Cross, scheduled for Sunday, March 29 starting at 4 PM.
Under the guidance of the parish priest, Father Marco Diara, the initiative has now established itself as a rite capable of involving hundreds of faithful and transforming the streets of the neighborhood into a great stage of faith, memory, and intense participation.
The previous edition left a deep mark on those present: a performance rich in pathos, marked by moments of sincere emotion, especially during the Crucifixion, interpreted with remarkable skill by the actors.
This year, the aim is to recreate that unique atmosphere, where the modernity of the district — with its recent buildings and wide streets — dialogues with the evocative power of scenes that ideally take us “back to year zero,” making each station even more suggestive.
The procession will start, as tradition dictates, from via Bellarmino, where the condemnation by the Sanhedrin and the handing over of the thirty pieces of silver to Judas will be represented.
It will then continue along via Cimarosa, the setting for the scene in which Pilate “washes his hands” and the flagellation of Jesus.
The stations will then lead participants to the steps of the church of the Sacred Heart, where the Crucifixion will take place, the culminating moment of the representation: silence, tension, scenic care, and interpretative intensity will give life to an experience of great spiritual elevation.
Father Marco Diara, creator and coordinator of the Living Stations of the Cross — now in its seventh edition — emphasizes its pastoral value: «This year we also wish to reach the hearts of the people. Our community experiences this event with great commitment and awareness. We have expanded the dialogues and taken care of every detail to revive the dramatic atmospheres of the Passion. It is a way to send a strong message, especially in a time marked by uncertainties and conflicts: the Stations of the Cross invite us to reflect on the fate of humanity and on the hope that arises from the sacrifice of Christ».
The actors, many of whom are young people from the parish, have been preparing for weeks to offer a high-level proposal, supported by the enthusiasm of the entire community, which has contributed to the setup and attention to detail.
The Living Stations of the Cross of the Sacred Heart of Jesus thus confirms itself as one of the most significant events of the Holy Week in Ragusa, capable of uniting tradition, faith, and popular participation.
All citizens are invited to take part in this moment of intense reflection and deep suggestion.
