In the capital, at the Church of the Most Holy Savior, the Feast of Saint Joseph was celebrated on Thursday in the presence of Bishop of Ragusa, Mons. Giuseppe La Placa, who presided over the liturgy and imparted the traditional blessing of the bread.

The service saw a strong and collective participation.

In his homily, the bishop invited the faithful to consider Saint Joseph as a concrete model of Christian life, highlighting how his virtues – discretion, guardianship, obedience to the will of God – can still guide personal and communal paths today.

He recalled how the patriarch, called to protect Jesus and Mary, fulfilled his mandate with a discreet yet decisive fidelity, translating the listening to the Word into daily choices.

Mons. La Placa then recalled an experience lived just a few hours earlier at the monastery of the Carmelite Sisters in Ragusa, where a young nun professed her solemn vows: an act described as a “sign of God’s goodness towards our Church”, an opportunity to reaffirm that the Lord continues to bestow vocations and to make His presence felt through the lives of those who dedicate themselves entirely to Him.

From this episode, the bishop drew two key words, ideally entrusting them to the entire assembly: listening and guardianship.

Listening, he explained, is not just a spiritual posture, but a fundamental human disposition, too often neglected in daily relationships: to truly listen means to welcome the other, to recognize their presence, to allow oneself to be challenged. Thus did Joseph, capable of welcoming the voice of God even when it transcended all human logic, transforming it into obedient trust.

Guardianship is the natural outcome of listening: to take care of faith, of bonds, of the community, of the gifts received. A commitment that concerns every believer and finds in Saint Joseph a shining example.

The faithful were reminded of the upcoming events of the feast: today, Saturday, at 6 PM, the mass presided over by Don Corrado Garozzo, which will be followed by a procession through the historic center, rescheduling that which was postponed in previous days due to bad weather.

The community thus prepares to experience the final moments of the celebration with renewed involvement, keeping the message of Saint Joseph as a guide for everyday life.
