Ragusa and the Santa Rosalia aqueduct, Assoutenti: "The water is not drinkable"

Critical situation for users

Assoutenti Province of Ragusa issues a strong warning regarding the quality of the water supplied by the Consortium for Reclamation No. 8, particularly concerning the areas served by the Santa Rosalia rural aqueduct.

After months of reports from users, the association states that it has initiated comprehensive checks, acquiring data and official documentation and involving the competent authorities.

From the environmental monitoring reports of ARPA Sicily, significant critical issues emerge: the distributed resource does not fully comply with the parameters required for the production of drinking water.

Even more alarming are the health findings: according to the documents from the ASP of Ragusa, the water from the Santa Rosalia rural aqueduct is not suitable for human consumption.

For years, users have complained of turbidity, bad odor, and frequent interruptions in supply.

In addition to the quality issue, there are also tariff profiles: numerous citizens report having received payment reminders and requests for fees, even related to previous years, often without ever receiving the corresponding invoices.

A situation that Assoutenti deems unacceptable: “It is intolerable that citizens are asked to pay for a service that presents serious issues in continuity and water quality, with serious doubts about its potability.”

The ongoing checks, according to the association, confirm that these are not isolated incidents, but rather a widespread and persistent problem.

For this reason, Assoutenti invites affected citizens to:

- Report their situation;

- Send bills, reminders, and communications received;

- Contact the Assoutenti office for checks and assistance.

The association is also considering the initiation of legal actions, both individual and collective, to obtain the refund of improperly requested amounts and the compensation for damages suffered.

“The health of citizens comes first – concludes the association – and cannot be called into question. If the water is not potable, citizens cannot be asked to pay for it as such.”

Assoutenti announces that it will continue to monitor the situation and to urge timely interventions from the competent authorities, reiterating the urgency of ensuring a safe, regular, and transparent water service.
