The Modica community and the judicial world of the province of Ragusa lose one of their most representative figures: Aurelio Catra, a reference magistrate for entire generations, passed away at the age of 87. His long career, marked by balance, rigor, and deep knowledge of the law, left an indelible mark on the history of justice in Iblea.

A career that began far from Sicily
Originally from the Modica area, Catra took his first steps in the judiciary in Turin. His experience in the Piedmont capital tempered his method and discipline, qualities he would carry with him upon returning to Sicily. After a period at the Ragusa court, his name became closely linked to the judicial office in Modica, where he would spend the most significant part of his professional life.

The face of the Pretura and then the Court of Modica
In Modica, he initially held the role of Chief Pretore, leading the district Pretura during years of great activity. With the reform that led to the abolition of the preture, Catra assumed the presidency of the Modica Court, guiding it through a complex and delicate phase. Under his leadership, the office on Via Aldo Moro experienced a period of intense productivity and strong institutional recognition.

The last stronghold before the merger
The abolition of the Modica Court and the subsequent merger with Ragusa marked a controversial chapter for the area. Catra was the last president to lead the office before its closure, maintaining until the end an approach characterized by responsibility, humanity, and a sense of institutions. He officially retired in 2010.
