The Contemporary Art Museum of Carmine in Scicli remains closed to the public and the controversies regarding its management do not subside. An institution inaugurated just last year is already at a standstill.

Intervening is city councilor Caterina Riccotti, who contests the management and the absence of a stable cultural program.

Riccotti judges the recent statement from the mayor — in which there is talk of "operational standby" or "physiological pause" — as "hasty and superficial", considering it incapable of clarifying the real critical issues.

The councilor also emphasizes an aspect she defines as "incredible": the need for significant maintenance interventions less than a year after opening, which necessitate the suspension of activities.

The crucial point, according to Riccotti, remains the exhibition planning. "It is absurd – she argues – that the closure of the exhibitions was awaited to start planning the next ones".

This approach, in her opinion, betrays a lack of a structured strategy, exacerbated by the absence of certainties regarding the timing and content of upcoming installations.

"The Macc" — she recalls — was presented as a strategic driver for high-level cultural tourism, capable of generating economic impacts on the entire territory. However, for this goal to materialize, the continuous usability of the facility is an essential requirement.

In this perspective, the councilor indicates that it is essential to accompany temporary exhibitions with a permanent collection, capable of ensuring continuity and attractiveness in the long term.

While recognizing the commitment of the offices in operational management, Riccotti calls for the responsibility of politics, which she claims must engage in "tireless" work to secure resources and funding aimed at acquiring works and building a quality collection nucleus.

To clarify future strategies, the councilor announces that she has submitted a council inquiry, with the aim of understanding what initiatives the administration intends to adopt to ensure a stable opening of the museum.
