The Municipality has approved the naming of the new nursery school on Australia Street after Don Luigi Giussani, born in 1922 and passed away in 2005.

The measure, formalized with resolution no. 317 of October 7, 2025, accepts the request of the Ibleo Socio-Cultural Center “Mons. Francesco Ventorino” and aligns with the entity's goal to dedicate facilities for children to prominent figures in the field of pedagogy and education.

The building on Australia Street, recently completed thanks to funds from the PNRR (Mission 4 – Education and Research) as part of the enhancement of educational and care services for early childhood, will host a commemorative plaque with the inscription: “Nursery School Don Luigi Giussani – Desio 1922 – Milan 2005 – Educator”.

The Administration recognizes Don Luigi Giussani as a figure of high national profile, with educational and cultural merits widely acknowledged.

His method, based on listening, trust, and “co-responsibility”, is considered exemplary for inspiring a work environment dedicated to the youngest.

His conception of education as “an introduction to total reality” aims to promote autonomy and freedom of the child through a living relationship with the educator.

Founder of the Communion and Liberation movement, Giussani has been a reference point for generations of young people and received numerous awards during his lifetime, including the Macchi Prize and the Longobard Seal.

In the request signed by the president of the Ibleo Socio-Cultural Center, Giampiero Antoci, the Desio priest is described as a “resource for an education that integrates reason, freedom, and relationship”, capable of responding to contemporary educational challenges.

The naming ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at 11 AM, in the presence of representatives from the institutions.
