Crisis table at the Municipality, the mayor against the broadband giants: "Enough with the blame game"

The patience of the Miccichè Administration has run out amid the bumps of poorly placed manholes and the holes left open for months. Yesterday morning, at city hall, the Public Works Councillor Gerlando Principato convened a "crisis table" that took on the tones of a real ultimatum towards the fiber optic giants, Open Fiber and FiberCop.

The message that came out of the summit is crystal clear: the Municipality no longer intends to act as a "shield" for private inefficiencies, nor tolerate that its technicians have to intervene at night to secure construction sites abandoned by others.

The dossier of non-compliance: "Unbearable situation"

At the table, in addition to Mayor Francesco Miccichè and the Municipal Police Councillor Carmelo Cantone, sat the technical leaders of the Public Works sector. The picture that emerged is one of a territory put to the test by works carried out without respect for the municipal regulations.

The list of critical issues is a daily war bulletin for residents:

Phantom restorations: poorly patched excavations or left unfinished for months.

Insufficient safety: manholes not level with the asphalt (real traps for motorcyclists) and poor oversight of work areas.

Hidden costs for the Municipality: the Municipal Police and the on-call staff of the Municipality are forced to intervene even at night upon notification from the Fire Brigade, taking on expenses that should be the responsibility of the companies.

Forced transparency: the "construction passport" arrives

To put an end to the blame game, the Administration has played its trump card: the immediate and retroactive application of new guidelines. From today, every excavation must have a clear and visible signage indicating the person responsible for the intervention. A sort of "construction passport" to allow citizens to know immediately who to call in case of service disruptions.

"It is a duty towards the citizens," declare jointly Mayor Miccichè and Councillor Principato. "They must clearly know who is operating in the territory. We will no longer tolerate delays or shifting of responsibilities."

The "names" for emergencies: who to contact

From the meeting emerged, for the first time, the direct contacts to whom critical reports should be forwarded, in an attempt to shorten the bureaucratic chain:

For FiberCop, the contacts are Salvatore Spataro (ongoing works) and Antonio Cimò (hazards on completed construction sites). A dedicated email has also been activated: aol-sic-ov-pericoli@fibercop.com.

For Open Fiber, the indicated responsible person is Calogero Licata.

The Administration concluded the meeting warning that monitoring will be ruthless: public safety and the urban decor of Agrigento can no longer be sacrificed on the altar of broadband.
