Modica, the proposal: "Let's create a city energy community"
The committee L'Alternativa socialista believes that this is the only way to meet the needs of the citizens exposed to greater economic vulnerability.
An overview of the city of Modica
In light of the escalating international tensions and conflicts that are affecting the global energy landscape, the representative of the Socialist Alternative committee, Antonio Ruta, draws attention to the energy future of Modica. "Given the serious issues that are emerging globally, caused and exacerbated by military conflicts and the ever-increasing international tensions, we believe that a serious and concrete reflection on the energy fate of our territory can no longer be postponed," he states.
Ruta emphasizes the direct effects of the external situation on the local fabric: "This ‘glocal’ crisis exemplifies the direct and heavy repercussions of external events on the daily lives of our communities: increased energy costs, which fuel difficulties for families and businesses and greater economic and social vulnerability. Obviously, the middle and lower-middle income categories, which represent a significant portion of Modica's residents, suffer the most prejudice. For this reason, the local committee L’Alternativa Socialista Modica calls on the Municipal Administration to provide an immediate and forward-thinking response, urgently activating for the establishment of the city’s energy community.
On the solutions front, the representative points to a specific path: "Energy communities – Ruta continues – represent a concrete, sustainable, and innovative response, as they promote the production and self-consumption of energy from renewable sources; reduce energy costs for families and businesses; strengthen the energy autonomy of the territory; promote models of cooperation and solidarity. This is not just a technical or economic choice, but a strategic political decision, as it improves the quality of life in the present and strengthens our common capacity for future resilience."
