Saint Joseph in Santa Croce Camerina among faith, tradition, and spectacle

The three-day celebration in honor of Saint Joseph, Patron of the City, concluded with a more than positive outcome: from Friday, March 13 to Sunday, March 15, Santa Croce Camerina transformed into a showcase of devotion, traditions, and entertainment, attracting thousands of visitors and tourists.

“It was a success that saw our community as the protagonist and allowed Santa Croce Camerina to be in the spotlight for three unforgettable days,” declared Mayor Peppe Dimartino with satisfaction. “The public response was extraordinary, a testament to how our traditions and the ability to offer a quality program are the best business cards for the territory.”

A rich and diverse program successfully combined the solemnity of religious rites with elements of innovation. Alongside the charm of the traditional Saint Joseph's Dinners, the focal point of popular devotion, initiatives aimed at enhancing the local cultural heritage received wide acclaim: from interactive maps dedicated to the Dinners to the evocative “narrated walks” on electric vehicles from Enjoy Barocco, conducted by the Glocal association with Storia Patria and Pro Loco, which guided citizens and visitors to discover new perspectives and stories related to the festival. The educational workshops on “Clean Bread”, which involved adults and children in rediscovering an ancient custom, were also very well attended.

The horticultural and gastronomic exhibition of Santa Croce confirmed its role as an excellent showcase for local productions, providing space and visibility for producers and artisans.

The evenings of Friday and Saturday in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II offered moments of great entertainment, leading up to the highly anticipated concert of an icon of Italian music, Orietta Berti, who filled the square and gifted the audience with a memorable evening.

“We have experienced extraordinary days for Santa Croce Camerina – continues Mayor Dimartino – and the credit goes to a great team. A heartfelt thank you goes to the Council, the City Council, the offices, the Youth Council, the Festivities Committee, the Parish of San Giovanni Battista, the Fabio Besta Institute, the associations, and the volunteers. A special thanks goes to all those who believed in this project by supporting it concretely: the Regional Department of Cultural Heritage, the Regional Department of Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment, the Free Municipal Consortium of Ragusa, and private sponsors. Without their contribution and the collaboration of everyone, we would not have been able to realize a program of such a level.”

The celebrations have once again highlighted the Administration's ability to network and secure strategic resources. In light of a total expenditure of about 45,300 euros, the Entity has secured external funding of over 34,000 euros: 15,000 euros from the Department of Cultural Heritage, 5,000 euros from the Department of Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment, 5,000 euros from the Free Consortium, and over 9,000 euros from private sponsors. This has allowed us to limit the burden on the municipal budget to about 11,000 euros, a modest sum when compared to the significant return in terms of visibility and, above all, the substantial economic impact for commercial activities and the entire local fabric.

“This virtuous model – concludes the mayor – demonstrates how investing in the promotion of our excellences and our identity, with careful management and the ability to attract resources, generates widespread benefits for the entire community. The San Giuseppe celebrations will lead us to another season rich in events and promotion of the territory.”
