Plastic free 2026, the Municipality of Ragusa awarded
Deputy Mayor Giuffrida: "The road ahead is still long, but these recognitions make us understand that we are on the right track."
Deputy Mayor Giuffrida receives the award in Rome
Plastic Free is the national recognition that rewards Municipalities that have distinguished themselves for enhancing the territory through concrete initiatives for the protection of the environment and future generations.
Ragusa is among the winners of 2026 for having implemented effective policies in all four evaluation criteria: combating environmental incivility, promoting virtuous practices in the territory, managing urban waste, and collaborating with the Plastic Free association.
“There is certainly still a lot of work to do – says Environment Councillor Gianni Giuffrida – but the path taken by Ragusa seems to be the right one if external observers have decided to award our city a recognition that has received the high patronage of the European Parliament, the patronage of the Senate of the Republic and the Chamber of Deputies.
We return to Ragusa with a recognition that certifies how advanced our city is in the national landscape, but at the same time reminds us of the great work to be done to continue improving. It is a journey that we have always undertaken together with municipal offices, with environmental associations that are committed to the territory like Plastic Free, with thousands of attentive, respectful, and good citizens, and that can only continue through the involvement of our community.”
