Ragusa, a motion presented: "More safety for the level crossing on Via Paestum"
City councilors Firrincieli and Zagami raise their voices after the latest incidents that occurred on site.
The arrival of the train with the car inside the level crossing
City councilors Sergio Firrincieli and Sebastiano Zagami have submitted an urgent request to the Municipality of Ragusa to urge immediate intervention on the level crossing on Via Paestum, considered a critical point for the city's traffic and for the productive fabric of the area.
In the document, the two representatives point out that the railway crossing has recently been the scene of dangerous incidents, exacerbated by reckless behaviors such as passing with a red light or during the lowering of the barriers.
A practice that, according to the signatories, puts public safety at risk and hinders the regular operation of the railway service.
Firrincieli and Zagami also highlight the poor compliance with the right turn obligation when exiting Via Licitra, emphasizing the need for more effective control measures.
Hence the request to install surveillance systems both in proximity to the level crossing and at the intersection with Via Licitra.
The act commits the mayor and the council to carry out technical checks for the installation of cameras — taking into account the protection already ensured within the railway track by the Pai, “Integrated Automatic Protection” — to initiate a discussion with Ferrovie dello Stato for the enhancement of the traffic lights and to strengthen the presence of local police in the area.
Finally, the two councilors request that the proposal be included in the agenda of the first useful city council, considering it a priority to intervene to ensure greater safety for citizens, motorists, and rail transport users.
