The Feast of the Madonna delle Milizie, also known as “Madonna on Horseback”, is a traditional religious celebration in Scicli (RG) that reenacts, through the “sacred representation”, the legendary battle of 1091 between Normans and Saracens.
According to tradition, the miraculous intervention of the Virgin, appearing on horseback with a drawn sword, is said to have determined the victory of the Christians.
