For 2026, the Sacred Drama of Vittoria is once again under the direction of Andrea Traina, confirming an artistic direction capable of deeply renewing one of the most heartfelt events of Holy Week in the Iblei, without losing its roots and tradition.

This year, the Sacred Drama of Vittoria returns to Piazza Calvario with a profoundly renewed spirit, transforming the traditional representation into a true collective rite. While last year’s staging focused on the Via Crucis and the doubts and fears of the man Christ, in this edition, the Passion is narrated by reversing the emotional perspective and filtering it through the intimate gaze of Mary. Giving voice to the anguish of her unexpressed thoughts, through the insertion of contemporary poetic fragments into the classical text, transforms her into the universal archetype of maternal pain,” declares Traina.

The production is characterized by a strong connection to the territory: the cast is entirely from the Iblei and largely from Vittoria, accompanied by the massive involvement of local performers of all ages.

An additional value comes from the students of the Theatrical Workshop, the training laboratory active at the Municipal Theater of Vittoria, which was born as a collateral action of the theater season directed by Tiziana Bellassai, in collaboration with the Godot Company of Ragusa.

“These young participants will not have a purely decorative role, but will be an integral part of the scenic dramaturgy: a true ‘living set design’, capable of breathing, moving, and physically reacting to the represented events, up to the moment of strong emotional impact when the laid body will pass through the crowd,” the director further emphasizes.

Connecting word and action will be the presence of the live orchestra, with original music by Maestro Marco Cascone: a key element to amplify the emotional intensity of the work and guide the audience into an immersive and visceral experience, where the traditional text intertwines with the sensitivities and anxieties of the present.

In the coming days, the date and location of the usual press conference for the presentation will be announced, in the presence of the director, the cast, and political and ecclesiastical authorities.
